Do Now is a weekly activity for students to engage and respond to current issues using social media tools like Twitter. KQED aims to introduce 21st Century skills and add value to learning through the integration of relevant local content and new media tools and technologies. Do Now gives students a chance to practice civic engagement and digital citizenship skills while they explore ways to connect topics in their classes to the present day. My scholars posted their responses to the post. They have not really had the opportunity to reply back and forth but.......
Does school really have to end at 3:00?
No, it doesn't. Learning can take place 24/7 with you assigning work at home in your pajamas at 2:00 am and students responding to the assignment at 3:00 am. Digital Learning can take place all day..any day. What a great help to students who might be out with an illness. With Learning Management Systems - Moodle, Edmodo, Schoology, etc. - systems can keep in touch with the teacher and stay on top of the assignments. Digital Learning allows for constant contact and interaction. At a technology conference and your students have a question??? She emails me and I will send her a Google Doc or Blog post link with the answer. She does not have to wait to 'see' me again before she gets the help needed.
Students create video that shows the right way and the wrong way to act at school or in class that cab be used as a model for classroom behavior.
My scholars researched methods of identifying and reacting to bullies. They used this information to create videos to be shared. Anti-bulying PSA from V Burton on Vimeo. My students created visuals to demonstrate their knowledge of a story's theme, plot structure and characters. This Word-Art was created for a variety of stories that we read and discussed in class. I share their work as evidence of learning that occurs in our class. Wikis, Blogs and Websites allow students to share their work with others. That sharing is digital evidence of learning and it is important. Their work is better if they know that they are creating for an audience,
My Scholars were required to look up literary terms and provide examples that would be collected to form an online class reference tool. This class defined literary terms and then created examples that were based on friends, family or school.
