Creating Graphic Essay Posters
My students create a poster that demonstrates their knowledge of a story's
I told them that I wanted them to show me what they had learned from Romeo and Juliet. I had them to create these posters instead of the average 'essay' as an assessment tool. I provided each of them with construction paper, markers, scissors, etc.

Visual Autobiographical Sketches of Characters
For this assignment, my students did two things: they created a PowerPoint and then they wrote a character essay for either Lord/Lady Macbeth.

Working with nonfiction
My students are talking to the text. They are making comments about and questioning what they are reading. I do not want them to merely summarize an article; I want them to read it, examine it and then respond to it.
Once they marked up their articles, they created persuasive essay that was published to their websites.
